These terms are an agreement between you and Moosa Salim, an individual developer in Oman, trading as SmartHorizon (“we”, “us”), for the use of MasjidNexus: the website, the admin portal, the TV app and the congregation app. By creating an account or using MasjidNexus, you agree to them. If you use MasjidNexus for a masjid, you confirm that you’re allowed to act for it, and these terms apply to the masjid too.
The service
MasjidNexus lets a masjid manage its prayer and iqama times and its content in the admin portal, show them on its TV screens, print timetables and posters, and share them with its congregation through the free congregation app. It’s a tool: each masjid decides what it publishes with it, and is responsible for it (see Content added by masjids).
Accounts
- You need an account to use the admin portal, and you must be at least 18 to create one.
- Give accurate details. Each admin has their own login: don’t share yours, and keep it secure. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
- A masjid’s primary admins decide who else can manage it and what they can change. They’re responsible for the admins they invite, and for removing anyone who no longer helps run the masjid.
- The congregation app needs no account.
Who runs a masjid
- When you add a masjid, you confirm that it exists at the address you give and that you’re allowed to act for it.
- We may ask for proof, such as a letter from the masjid’s committee or an official document. We may hide, merge or remove a masjid that seems fake, duplicated or added without its permission.
- If a masjid’s management changes, or there’s a dispute about who runs it, we may give control of its account to the people who show us they run it. Unless it’s urgent, we’ll first tell its primary admins and give them 14 days to respond. We don’t settle disputes within a masjid, and we may suspend the masjid while one is resolved.
Free trial
Each masjid can have one free trial of 30 days, with every feature. No payment details are needed. Adding the same masjid again to get another trial isn’t allowed. When the trial ends, the masjid needs a subscription to keep using the portal and its screens.
Subscription and payment
- MasjidNexus is a yearly subscription for each masjid. A subscription covers one masjid at one location, with as many screens as it needs there. Each masjid needs its own subscription, including masjids run by the same organisation or set up by the same installer, and a subscription can’t be resold or used for other masjids.
- The price is shown on our pricing page and at checkout, and taxes are added at checkout where they apply.
- Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Paddle’s own terms also apply to your purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically each year until cancelled. Payment is made online, at checkout.
- Someone else can pay for a masjid, such as a donor or a parent organisation. The masjid’s admins still run its account, and a refund goes back to whoever paid.
- If we change the price, we’ll tell the masjid’s admins at least 30 days before the new price applies to a renewal.
- Each renewal is under the Terms of Service in force on the renewal date.
Cancelling and when a subscription ends
- You can cancel at any time from the portal. The subscription stays active until the end of the year you’ve paid for, and isn’t renewed.
- If a payment fails, the masjid keeps full access for 30 days while you update the payment method. After that, or once a subscription has ended, the portal becomes read-only and the screens show a message asking the masjid to renew.
- If a masjid doesn’t subscribe after its free trial, its data is kept for 90 days after the trial ends. After a paid subscription ends, it’s kept for 12 months. In that time the masjid can subscribe and carry on; after it, we may delete the masjid and its data, and we’ll email its admins at least 30 days before.
- Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
Content added by masjids
- MasjidNexus is a tool that masjids use to publish their own content. Everything a masjid’s admins add (its details, times, announcements, activities, lectures, images, slides, texts, links and donation pages, and how they’re arranged on its screens) is published by that masjid, under its sole responsibility. We don’t write, check, approve or endorse it, and it doesn’t represent our views.
- We don’t monitor content. If we remove something, that doesn’t mean we’ve checked or approved anything else.
- Your content stays yours. You allow us to store, process and show it as needed to provide the service: in the portal, on your screens, in the congregation app, on printed timetables and posters, and on your masjid’s page on our website.
- The masjid and its admins must follow the laws of every place where the masjid operates and its content is shown. They’re responsible for any permits or permissions their content needs, including the permission of people shown in photos (and a parent’s permission for children), and the right to use any images, logos, texts or recordings.
- Your masjid’s details are public in the congregation app and on the website.
- Admins are responsible for the announcements and notifications they send to the congregation. Send only what concerns the masjid, with no unrelated advertising. We can’t guarantee that every notification arrives.
Content that isn’t allowed
Don’t add content that:
- is illegal in the masjid’s country or where it’s shown;
- is hateful, or encourages violence, terrorism or extremism;
- attacks or insults people, groups or other schools of thought, or is defamatory;
- is sexual or obscene;
- is misleading or fraudulent, including fake fundraising;
- infringes someone’s copyright, trademark or privacy;
- campaigns for a political party or candidate;
- advertises things unrelated to the masjid, or is spam.
Reporting content
- If you believe something shown with MasjidNexus is illegal or breaks these terms, report it through the contact form on our website (choose “Report illegal content”) or email support@masjidnexus.com. Tell us the masjid, what the content is and where it appears, and which law or rule it breaks.
- We act only on reports of content that’s illegal or breaks these terms. We don’t handle disagreements about a masjid’s views, times, speakers or how it’s run: please raise those with the masjid itself. You can also stop seeing a masjid’s content by unfollowing it in the congregation app.
- We may hide or remove reported content, and suspend the masjid, straight away and without notice. We may share information with the authorities when the law requires it.
Donations
- A masjid can show a link or QR code to its own donation page. Donations go directly to the masjid through the service it chooses: we don’t receive, hold or process them, and we take no share.
- The masjid is responsible for where the link goes, for following fundraising and charity rules, and for receipts, refunds and how donations are used. Questions about a donation should go to the masjid.
Prayer times and dates
MasjidNexus calculates prayer times from the method and settings your masjid chooses, and shows the iqama times your admins set. The results depend on those settings and on the masjid’s location. Hijri dates are calculated, so they can differ by a day from the local moon sighting; admins can adjust them. Your masjid is responsible for checking its times and dates, and we’re not responsible for prayers missed or held at the wrong time because of them.
Screens, devices and updates
- The masjid provides and looks after its own TVs, players, internet connection and power, and keeps each device’s date, time and time zone correct (setting them to update automatically is best).
- The TV app works on the devices we list as supported. We may stop supporting older devices or system versions, and we’ll tell admins beforehand where we can.
- The masjid is responsible for keeping our apps up to date on its devices. Older versions may stop working with MasjidNexus, and we may stop supporting them.
- We’re not responsible for faults in, damage to or wear of devices, including image burn-in on screens that show the same picture for long periods.
Acceptable use
Don’t use MasjidNexus to break the law, to send spam, or to interfere with the service or other people’s data, for example by trying to get around its security, overloading it, or copying, reverse-engineering or reselling it. Don’t collect data from MasjidNexus with automated tools, including for AI, or reuse its masjid and timetable data elsewhere, without our written permission.
Support
We support admins by email and through Support in the portal. We answer as soon as we reasonably can, but we don’t promise a response time.
Availability and changes
We work to keep MasjidNexus running, and the TV app keeps showing times when its internet connection drops. But we can’t promise the service will always be available or free of errors, and we may need to pause it for maintenance. We improve MasjidNexus over time and may change or remove features; if a change significantly reduces what a paid subscription includes, we’ll tell admins before it happens.
Our property
- The MasjidNexus software, apps, designs, screen layouts and presets, and the MasjidNexus name and logo belong to us or are licensed to us. A subscription lets your masjid use them while it’s active; it doesn’t transfer them to you.
- Quran, hadith and other Islamic texts built into MasjidNexus come from third-party sources. We work to show them accurately, but we can’t guarantee them.
- If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely.
- We’ll show your masjid’s name, screens or logo as an example in our marketing only with your permission, which you can withdraw at any time.
Services run by others
MasjidNexus works with services run by others, such as Google and Apple sign-in, the app stores, maps and Paddle. Their own terms apply to those services, and we’re not responsible for them.
Suspension and closing an account
- We may suspend or close an account or masjid that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it, and we’ll tell you why unless the law prevents us.
- We may also suspend a masjid or account straight away, without notice, if it seems to have been taken over by someone else, if its content is illegal or harmful, or to protect the service, other masjids or the public.
- You can delete your account or masjid at any time; see Account deletion.
Responsibility for claims
The masjid will defend us against, and cover, any claim, fine, penalty, loss, damage or cost (including legal fees) that any person, organisation or authority brings, or that we suffer, arising directly or indirectly from the masjid’s content, from what its admins do, from its use of MasjidNexus, or from it breaking these terms or the law.
Claims about a masjid’s content should be made to that masjid, which is its publisher. If we receive one, we may pass it on to the masjid, with the claimant’s details where the law allows, and tell the claimant to contact the masjid. The masjid must then deal with it at its own cost.
Liability
MasjidNexus is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. As far as the law allows, we’re not liable to you, the masjid or anyone else for any loss or damage of any kind, whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising from MasjidNexus or its use. This includes:
- content added by masjids, and how it appears on screens, in the congregation app or on the website;
- the prayer times, dates and texts shown;
- the service being unavailable, data being lost, and devices failing;
- lost income, donations or goodwill.
If, despite this, we’re found liable, our total liability for all claims together is limited to the greater of what the masjid paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer where they apply.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Each version is dated and kept unchanged, and earlier versions are listed at the end of this page.
- Significant changes: we’ll email admins at least 30 days before they take effect and ask them to accept the new version in the portal. A renewal after that date is under the new terms; if you don’t agree, cancel before then.
- Smaller changes, such as corrections or clearer wording, take effect when we publish them.
If you keep using MasjidNexus after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply.
General
- We may transfer these terms to a company that takes over MasjidNexus, and we’ll tell you if we do. You can’t transfer them without our consent.
- We’re not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as outages at internet or hosting providers, natural disasters, war or government action.
- These terms, with the Privacy Policy, Refund Policy and Account deletion page, are the whole agreement between us. If a part is found invalid, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These terms are written in English. If a translation differs, the English version applies.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Sultanate of Oman, and the courts of Oman have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
